New Macbooks Review

The new Macbooks were released mid last month with some nice updates for everyone, even graphic designers. It was designed using what Apple calls the “Brick” manufacturing process which is supposed to make this Mac lighter and more resistant to accidental drops. It also comes with the Multi-Touch trackpad where you can pinch, swipe, or rotate to enlarge text, advance through photos, or adjust an image. This track pad is the first of its kind (I think); there is no visible button since the track pad is one big button. Of course the update we really care about is the NVIDIA GeForce video card and the amazing LED backlit display, which only the Macbook Pros had before.

There were a few things we didn’t love. One was the lack of firewire ports, which are non-existent in the Macbooks. Another irk we had was the similarities of the Macs; there is no variety! You get one Macbook color and design with only one style of screen. Other than that the new Macbooks are great - definitely “more bang for your buck.” The Macbook Pro also has its improvements but we liked the old keyboard a little more as it just felt easier to type on, especially if you have small hands.
