About one year ago I bought my first tablet; that is, after being forced to give back the one I had borrowed from my friend six months prior. After doing some research I decided on the Wacom Intuos3. I wanted a tablet that was very straightforward, simple and, well, professional. Whenever I use my tablet I feel very professional (instant confidence boost!).
The Intuos models stick to practicality and efficiency as far as its user is concerned. On either side of the pad there are what they call ‘ExpressKeys’ which act as certain keys on your keyboard, the important ones being, alt, spacebar, shift and command. These four keys are on both sides to oblige left hand users and right hand users. Unfortunately, that aspect permits my left-handed sister to take it from me and use it constantly. Another cool feature is the two touch strips which allow quick scrolling and zooming.
But the thing I love the most about the 'ExpressKeys' and the touch strips is that they make the tablet useful not only for using design based software but for surfing the web! Since tablets are known to be much more comfortable as opposed to a mouse, the tablet is nice to use when you know you are going to be on the computer for a while. So instead of feeling your wrist cramp up from 3 straight hours of surfing you'll feel you've been writting for hours (but hey, some may prefer one over the other).
However, there is one unsavory thing about my tablet and some tablets in general, the price. Many of the top of the line tablets cost a couple hundred, sometimes even for the smallest size. But there are a few models from Wacom that are affordable and fun (the Bamboo Fun has different colors to choose from). But if you are on the prowl for a nice affordable tablet I suggest to search for deals on amazon.com and digitalgraphicsresources.com before giving up and ordering it directly off Wacom.com.
