Taking in Art Center

I have always thought Art Center was way out of my league, not only skill wise but financially too. Therefore, I would usually disregard it when considering which schools I should look into for transfer. When first walking in through the main entrance, I saw exactly what I expected, amazing and professional looking work. It was like I walked into a museum. But, as I said, this was no surprise to me; I knew the work would be above and beyond.

Right off the bat, were herded into a room where a slightly flamboyant young man (he was an assistant of something-or-other) gave us some basic information about why the school is highly renowned. Most of the teachers all have real world experience that makes them mentors to their students. He also explained the rigorous workload every single student has to take on (which was evident because in our wanderings we came across two couches, both with someone fast asleep on them). After this we watched a video describing, furthermore, why art center is amazing: they help you find internships and jobs while you’re still a student and how the tough, do-or-die workload is in fact synonymous to real life and the various scholarships available. What grabbed my attention was how strongly they welcome prospective students in to show their portfolio to an advisor as well as and how thoroughly they critique it. This makes the school seem very welcoming to those who try hard.

The student work (if you can stoop so low as to call it that call it that) was spectacular. When we finally left that room we were escorted out of the room and given a walking tour. We saw students hard at work drawing and building; machines cutting and printing. Despite how intimidating the work was, it is important to note that these are still students, they are still learning and perfecting themselves. I can be a student and I can work hard! This raised my hopes even further. What completely sold me was the atmosphere of the school. You could almost hear creative thought processes echoing the halls. The school (I know, I know it is an art school) lived and breathed creativity. I have never been in an atmosphere that large and full of people who have similar interests as me, it was very enthralling and some day I would love to be a part of it.
